Cultural Exchange
... between Marcopolo and Kublai Kahn. I think the idea is not coming across too clearly with this one - a bit too complicated. What do you think the story is about? :)
Topic: a "photo" from Marco Polo's journey from Italy to Asia
Title: Cultural Exchange
Note: I wonder why people hardly smile in the old photographs, they all looked so serious - this came across when I did a bit research about it.. Hence the seriousness in both characters in this 'photo'. :P

hehe i got a feeling this was yours :D great job
Yeah, you'd have to know your history to really "get" it....
About your question why everyone looks so serious.....
It's because, at the time, it took an incredible amount of time for the film to be exposed in the camera. And the person getting their photo taken, had to stand there while that happened, motionless. This was because if you moved even a little bit (over the ~5 minute exposure time), the end result would look like those time lapse photos where you see the trails of the movement. And since it's hard to smile consistently for ~5 minutes, people just looked serious. Much easier.
Hope that answered it!

Yeah, I've wondered the whole why they never smiled too! :) Try watching the movie Creation! theres a part there where they are taking photos and the girl was smiling and laughing and the photographer becomes grumpy and corrects her into a scowl. :))
