But what is the black ant saying to the red ants? Looks like some sort of sign they are beholden to?

Ted: Yes! The black ant said... "Please, sir.. we're just honest, ordinary, hard working starving ants.. please don't take our months worth of food away.. our kids need it" (these are said in ant's language of course) and you can weave your own story after that :P Thanks for the kind words, sir.
